Common Problems with J-Series Sending Units
- Failed float or worn resistor causing erratic or inaccurate fuel gauge readings
- Corroded terminals and poor ground connections (very common on older J-Series trucks)
- Stuck or bent float arm from years of heavy use and off-road vibration
- Leaking at the sending unit gasket due to age and material hardening

- J10 and J20 models often had different tank sizes and sending unit lengths depending on bed length and configuration
