Common Problems with J-Series Sending Units

  • Failed float or worn resistor causing erratic or inaccurate fuel gauge readings
  • Corroded terminals and poor ground connections (very common on older J-Series trucks)
  • Stuck or bent float arm from years of heavy use and off-road vibration
  • Leaking at the sending unit gasket due to age and material hardening

Important Notes

  • J10 and J20 models often had different tank sizes and sending unit lengths depending on bed length and configuration
  • Always replace the gasket and lock ring when installing a new sending unit
  • Verify your tank capacity (standard vs auxiliary tanks)
